Town of Windsor Fire Station #2

2009 ASCE Outstanding Sustainable Project of the Year
Green Valley Consulting Engineers teamed with San Francisco-based Beverly Prior Architects and provided civil engineering and landscape architecture services for the award-winning fire station. Solar powered and implementing a variety of "green" building components, the 8,000 square foot station is assured to earn LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification.

Windsor Fire Station #2

The collaborative design project incorporated multi-discipline sustainable features to protect existing landscape, minimize construction impacts and provide cost savings. Energy efficiency (for example, the significant use of natural light) will save money on operations. The fire station has an energy efficient kitchen and is equipped with sleeping quarters to house firefighters 24 hours per day.

Hardscape design features include permeable areas that, unlike concrete or asphalt, allow stormwater to soak directly into the ground to reduce erosion and water pollution. In an effort to provide further benefits to water quality, a new automatic, hydraulically operated diversion chamber within the drainage system was included for wash-down activities. The hydraulic chamber diverts the water used to wash the fire trucks to an onsite sand/grease/oil vault. The water in the vault is then filtered along with the kitchen discharge and other polluted water from the fire station. show/hide full description

Cloverdale Fire Station

Working with the Santa Rosa Architectural firm AchiLOGIX, Green Valley provided landscape architectural services for the new Fire Protection District Headquarters for the City of Cloverdale, CA. Green Valley designed the entry plaza as well as the planting and irrigation system for the project. The paving component, which will lead visitors from the public space to a private patio area, was designed in such a way to complement the angled administration building. Landscape details include selecting xeriscape plants for their low water usage as well as retaining the majority of the existing trees and incorporating them into the new landscape design. The ground breaking ceremony was held on July 19th, 2008.
