Cloverdale Fire Station
Client: : ArchiLOGIX
Working with the Santa Rosa Architectural firm AchiLOGIX, Green Valley provided landscape architectural services for the new Fire Protection District Headquarters for the City of Cloverdale, CA. Green Valley designed the entry plaza as well as the planting and irrigation system for the project. The paving component, which will lead visitors from the public space to a private patio area, was designed in such a way to complement the angled administration building. Landscape details include selecting xeriscape plants for their low water usage as well as retaining the majority of the existing trees and incorporating them into the new landscape design. The ground breaking ceremony was held on July 19th, 2008.
Town of Windsor Fire Station #2
Client: Beverly Prior Architects
Green Valley Consulting Engineers teamed with San Francisco-based architectural firm Beverly Prior Architects to provide civil engineering and landscape architecture services for the new Silver LEED-certified Windsor Fire Station #2. Located in the Town of Windsor, Sonoma County, California, the 7,700 sf station is designed to be "green" and seismically strong and is equipped to house firefighters with sleeping quarters and an energy-efficient kitchen.
Civil engineering design features include ADA components, driveway, and building conforms while hardscape design includes permeable transition areas that reduce underground stormwater infrastructure and increase surface infiltration and particulate removal to meet local SUSMP and LEED requirements. "Green" technology is evident in the drainage system which utilizes a state-of-the-art automatic, hydraulically operated diversion chamber for wash-down activities. The drainage system protects the environment from contaminates that usually enter the storm sewer system. The overall sight design utilizes methodical engineering to protect existing landscape features and minimize construction impacts.
The landscaping plans for the new fire station incorporate both drought-tolerant and native plantings irrigated by reclaimed water. Irrigation plans identify individual bubblers over drip irrigation for their durability and ease of maintenance. Bio-swales, which filter pollutants from parking areas and roof tops, provide treated drainage through the site.
The project is currently under construction with a scheduled completion date of June 2009.
