Full-time Construction Inspection and part-time Construction Management was completed for the $1.5 million sewer and water improvement project located within the City of Santa Rosa’s bustling Memorial Hospital Neighborhood. The project replaced approximately 1,500 linear feet of deteriorated 6- and 12-inch sewer mains with new, durable 8- and 15-inch PVC mains. 1,200 linear feet of aged and undersized 8-inch water main were restored with a high-strength 12-inch ductile iron main. Streets and sidewalks within the project area were improved through pavement reconstruction and overlay, asphalt replacement, new crosswalk and roadway striping, and addition of ADA Accessible Pedestrian Curb Ramps.

Scope of work also included:

  • Removing existing sewer and water system components
  • Installation of sewer laterals and water service lines
  • New large 48- and 60-inch sewer manholes and drop structures
  • Replacing fire hydrants, fittings, and valves

Construction challenges included:

  • Maintaining vehicular and pedestrian safety in high-traffic area
  • Performing night and Sunday work to provide medical facilities with uninterrupted water service
  • Working with City Transit for relocation and public notification of bus stops
  • Replacement of a high-flow sewer line requiring bypass pumping
  • Corresponding with PG&E for gas main replacements
