Gobbi and Orchard Street Re-Signalization Project, City of Ukiah

With its own population of 15,070, Ukiah is the retail service hub to an area reaching beyond a fifty mile perimeter that experiences a dynamic daytime service population influx exceeding 35,000 people.
The City of Ukiah retained Green Valley to provide fast-track design and surveying services for the installation of a new traffic signal, sidewalk, curb, gutter and ADA ramps at the intersection of Gobbi Street and Orchard Avenue. Green Valley also provided utility coordination and relocation, traffic signal and timing plan and design, permitting, right-of-way acquisitions and construction support services. In addition, because of the close proximity of Orchard Avenue from the Hwy 101 southbound ramps, special design treatments were required for this project to ensure that the queuing from the signal would not block the ramp intersection. Funding was obtained from the State Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) through the Mendocino County Council of Governments (MCOG).
Solano Avenue and West Lincoln Avenue Intersection Improvements, Napa

Green Valley provided surveying and civil engineering services for this major intersection reconfiguration and
signalization project that had jurisdiction and oversight by both the City of Napa and Caltrans. Improvements
included widening of approximately 700 linear feet of arterial roadway and State Highway 29 facilities,
street lighting, complete signalization of the intersection, interconnect, extensive drainage facilities and
pedestrian safety features. The project entailed extensive coordination with Caltrans for the coordination of
City signals with the Caltrans signal at the Highway 29 off-ramp. Green Valley was responsible for all
phases of the project including predesign, topographic mapping, final design, permitting, and construction
support, and team members worked closely with the City of Napa and Caltrans to design and construct
this $350,000 project on an accelerated schedule.
Main Street, Cloverdale
Winner of 2003 CELSOC Engineering Excellence Award
Part of the City of Cloverdale's overall downtown revitalization plan included the reconstruction of
approximately 1,000 lineal feet of Main Street. Green Valley was commissioned to work on improvements
which included new water mains, rehabilitation of the structural section, and replacement of existing
curb, gutter, and sidewalk. Green Valley designed and specified a cutting edge technology known as "foamed
asphalt," which recycles the existing structural section in place for a new road base. Environmental and
economic benefits gained by utilizing Cold Foam on Main Street included:
- No odor, no visible emissions and no exposure to fumes
- Recycling of 100% of existing road base materials and their related investment cost
- Time savings, as the foamed asphalt was capable of carrying traffic loads immediately after compaction
- Construction was able to be performed in winter as the foamed asphalt could be constructed in adverse conditions such as rain and cold, without affecting the workability or quality of the finished layer
- Pavement lifetime approximately doubled compared to conventional asphalt concrete overlay
- Cost was approximately 20 to 30 percent less than other conventional methods of reconstruction
