Mark West Quarry Solar Panels

Project Name

Mark West Quarry Solar Panels

Project Location

Mark West Quarry - Santa Rosa, CA

Project Description

The Bodean Company – an aggregate and asphalt supplier located in Santa Rosa, California – acted upon its commitment to sustainability by installing a large solar panel system at its Mark West Quarry location. With 3,444 solar panels, this solar power project is the largest of its kind in the western United States and makes the BoDean Company the first of its kind in the world to go 100 percent solar at one of its quarry sites. Overall the system is capable of generating 1.165 megawatts of green electricity annually, and offsets the release of 18,440,521 pounds of Carbon Dioxide (CO2) per year – the equivalent of driving 2,494,595 miles in an average car.

Green Valley Consulting Engineers was retained by Stellar Energy to provide “very precise” construction staking for 864 Terrafix earth screws used to anchor the solar panel rack system to the steep quarry terrain. Because of the physically exhausting landscape and the need to stay ahead of a tight installation schedule, Green Valley decided to employ “quick stakes” which are lighter and faster to place – taking roughly 1/3 less time when compared with traditional “lath stakes.”Green Valley also employed our Trimble Robotic Total Station which maximized our crew’s efficiency and accuracy in the field.

Clients Say

"It's been a busy summer and we could not have done it without the help of GVCE's CM Team.  South Starr Road had enough hiccups to keep everyone busy.  Our Construction Manager, Jason, was extremely helpful in solving the (many) unexpected field issues.  We look forward to utilizing GVCE's CM Services on future CIP projects." - South Starr Road Project Jim O'Brien, Project Manager - Town of Windsor
