Windsor River Road and Windsor Road Intersection Improvements and Multi-Use Path Connector

Project Name

Windsor River Road and Windsor Road Intersection Improvements and Multi-Use Path Connector

Project Location

Town of Windsor

Project Description

Located at the westerly entrance to the heart of downtown Windsor, the Windsor River Road/Windsor Road Intersection Improvement Project (Project) is one of only 10 roundabouts in the US to cross over active Railroad Tracks.  The Project transformed a signalized intersection into a 5-Way roundabout during the multi-year construction of improvements and was completed on time and significantly under budget.

One of the most challenging aspects of the project was determining how to stage the construction of the roundabout while keeping the intersection open to traffic. GV worked with the Contractor to develop and manage a seven-stage construction staging/traffic handling plan to address the complexities of the work sequence. The intersection operated more efficiently during construction than prior to construction.

PUBLIC OUTREACH:

This phase of the project was facilitated and actively managed and communicated by GV staff through a robust public outreach program that had regular updates on the City’s website, weekly handouts that were hand walked in the neighborhood and business district and community which included information and graphics of construction stages and detours

Clients Say

"It's been a busy summer and we could not have done it without the help of GVCE's CM Team.  South Starr Road had enough hiccups to keep everyone busy.  Our Construction Manager, Jason, was extremely helpful in solving the (many) unexpected field issues.  We look forward to utilizing GVCE's CM Services on future CIP projects." - South Starr Road Project Jim O'Brien, Project Manager - Town of Windsor
